<p>The research was conducted by Bahram H. Arjmandi, a group of researchers from Oklahoma State University and Florida State, and Margaret A. Sitton, Professor and chairman of the Department of Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences in the College of Human Sciences.</p>
<p>Arjmandi explained that in his career on studying a number of fruits from dates, strawberries, raisins, and figs but none of those have come closer to the effect of dried prunes or plums on the bone health of a person.</p>
<p>In addition, Arjmandi noted that all vegetables and fruits have affirmative results on health; however when it comes to bone health, dried plums become exceptional.</p>
<p>The study involved the testing of two groups of women who are in postmenopausal stage within twelve months.</p>
<p>A group, which is a comparative control group of 45 women, was asked to take in a hundred grams of dried apples, while the other group which consisted of 55 women, was told to take in a hundred grams of dried plums for each day, equivalent to ten prunes.</p>
<p>Also, the participants of the study got day by day dosages of vitamin D and calcium.</p>
<p>The results show that the group who took dried plums had notably higher bone mineral density in the spine and ulna compared to the group who took dried apples.</p>
<p>Moreover, Arjmandi explained that the result was because of the dried plums’ ability in suppressing the breakdown of bone rate or bone restoration rate. This tends to surpass the new bone growth rate as people keep on growing old.<br />
