Sale of Avandia Finally Clamped Down by US Government

Sale of Avandia Finally Clamped Down by US GovernmentThe federal government announced that the diabetes pill Avandia is to be will be pulled out from retail pharmacies shelves this coming November due to its now known risks of triggering heart attacks.

This new program will only prescribe the drug to certified doctors and to those patients who are already advised of the posed risks. Also, the specific drug will be given to those patients who will order their medical prescriptions through mail. They can now use this only to specific pharmacies.

Cleveland Clinic chief of cardiovascular unit Steven Nissen informed that the “decade-long nightmare coming to an end”. It’s been 11 years following this drug ended up being released. It’s hight time for it to be restricted in access so that practically no one will have the ability to acquire it without prescription.

Bernadette King from GlaxoSmithKline, the drug maker shared, “Avandia is the trade name for the drug named rosiglitazone, which is also sold as a component in the combination drugs of Avandamet and Avandaryl. Last year, from January through October, almost half a million patients in United States filled prescriptions for these products. By December, about 90,000 people were taking an Avandia-based medicine.”

Last 2007, Nissen had presented a research that shows the drug’s possibility of increasing heart attacks by 40% with people diagnosed of Type 2 diabetes. The succeeding studies also had confirmed this risk of having greater heart attacks.

Harlan Krumholz, a cardiologist at Yale and also a longtime critic of the drug explained that the solution was created a year ago because Avandia’s effects need to be curbed. At this moment, they’re ultimately making public that they are planning to include constraints after six months. Kumholtz is somehow sad that it took a long time for them to realize that.

I’ve noticed less and less solicitations via TV ads and Internet ads re:Avandia. I submitted a claim for Class Action with St. Louis Attorneys(name deleted). This was in August, 2010. I haven’t heard anything from them on the progress of the suit against GSK although there have been notices that GSK is settling the final 3000 cases. Any recommendations where I can get info about the status of my payment. The Attorneys did e-mail me in August, 2010 advising me that they are representing me. I need to see some light at the end of the tunnel because of Financial Hardships resultant from triple by-pass surgery @ Cleveland Clinic and now being retired.
    Any recommendations?
Am I able to fire my Attorneys and get someone that is proactive? What are the penalties? This Law firm will get 33% of my settlement – I think that I’m due updates every so often.

Finally they take it off the shelf. My cousin actually tried this product and I thought is was pretty cool instead of needles. After some research I advised her to stop it and she had to back to needles. I hope this product can be refined then Im pretty sure the consumers will be buying again. Just cant believe it made it to pharmacies with such risks.
