According to a newly released report, almost half of the adults in United States will become obese by the year 2030. This is due to the current trends that are persisting. By then, these obese people will be prone to heart disease, diabetes and other weight-related problems.
The figure shows that out of three adults, there is one of them that are obese today. According to Claire Wang, PhD and a researcher from Columbia University, the existing figure will increase by half when 2030 comes; this is if there is little done in addressing the epidemic of obesity.
With the figures shown, that will also probably come with higher chronic diseases rates such as heart disease, diabetes, several types of cancer, and arthritis.
Wang added that their expectations found out that the obesity increase is going to end in rises among a number of the said chronic diseases that have been immobilizing and very expensive to treat. Wang claimed that an action must be done quickly.
Moreover, Wang stated that the expenses in treating diseases that are related with obesity will cost the health care system of United States up to more than $66 billion annually by 2030. This is true if the estimations will be realized.
What can be done is that children at this point should be well educated to eat healthy and avoid junk food to quell the obesity epidemic. Schools should be the who will act out first by banning the purchase of sodas and other greasy food in the school lunch room. First Lady Michelle Obama had already taken great steps in ensuring that American kids will have good nutrition. Fitness programs should also be enforced in schools and at home so that children will imbibe these healthy habits and prevent the ballooning of obese people by 2030.
