Eating Veggies and Fruits Counteracts Gene Responsible for Heart Disease

Eating Veggies and Fruits may lower Heart Disease Risk A latest study is suggesting that taking in generous quantities of vegetables and fruits can actually counter the causes of a “bad gene” associated with heart disease. So there is really a reason behind mom’s eagerness in making kids eat the vegetables and fruits she had prepared.

According to the reported study, earlier studies presented that the risk of heart disease can be increased by twenty percent when an individual has a copy of the so-called 92p1 gene. If it’s two copies, then the risk in increased up to thirty or forty percent.

Dr. Sonia Anand, McMaster University’s professor of medicine and epidemiology, and also the lead author of the study stated that generally, there are about twenty percent of individuals who carry a minimum of one copy of the said bad gene.

The study was conducted by researchers through looking at the causes of a vegetable and fruit diet among a number of 27,000 citizens coming from five ethnicities, some of those had the 92p1 gene.

The participants of the study came from South Asian, Latin American, Arab and European descent. They were divided into groups either eating a diet which is low or high in vegetables, fruits and berries.

The results showed that among those who have eaten the produce-filled diet appeared no increase in heart disease risk. On the other hand, those who have eaten with less veggies and fruits and who had the high-risk gene appeared to have increased their risk in heart disease by thirty percent.

The general outcome recommended that the diet affects the weakening impact of the identified high-risk gene.
